Motorola Receives
Gold Well Workplace Award
Omaha (NE)-Motorola has been awarded the prestigious Gold Well
Workplace Award by the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA).
The award recognizes a sincere commitment to wellness at the worksite,
as well as a dedication to the well being of employees.
Specifically, the Gold award recognizes organizations that have
developed comprehensive programs that produce measurable bottom-line
results. Wellness programs at Gold Award winning organizations are
a strategic consideration and an integral part of the business.
WELCOA developed the Well Workplace Awards Initiative in order to
advance its aggressive national worksite wellness agenda. Like the
Malcolm Baldridge award for performance excellence, the award program
is driven by a rigorous set of criteria.
Among other things, organizations gather and analyze employee profiles
in order to promote change and healthier lifestyles among its employees.
Since the inception of the program in 1991, only 400 corporations,
healthcare systems, public agencies and educational systems have
met the criteria, and been recognized as part of the cadre of "Americas
Healthiest Companies."
The Well Workplace Awards Program recognizes organizations on three
levels. The Bronze level of wellness recognizes those that have
met minimum criteria by demonstrating a solid foundation for success.
Silver Award winning organizations are those that have expanded
their programming and started to align their efforts with the strategic
priorities of the organization.
At Gold Award winning organizations, wellness has become a way
of life, and is part of the culture of the workplace.
"Says WELCOA president Dr. David Hunnicutt, "Motorola
has clearly demonstrated that it has made a tangible commitment
to protecting the health and well being of its most valuable assets-their
employees. By meeting the rigorous standards necessary to achieve
the Gold Award, Motorola has demonstrated that it is world class
in its approach to workplace wellness."
Motorola's efforts were truly remarkable, with 45 sites and 65,000
total of employees included in their Well Workplace process. Considering
the magnitude of these numbers, it's evident that Motorola has become
one of a handful of companies leading the way in the new era of
worksite wellness.
Motorola shines specifically in the area of assessing the needs
and interests of their employees, and tailoring their focus toward
improvement in these areas. This demonstrates Motorola's understanding
of one of the fundamental aspects of improving the health and well
being of their employees. Instead of implementing general programs
in the hope of affecting their working population, they have taken
the time to understand the specific needs and concerns surrounding
their workforce, and concentrated their efforts in these areas.
This is how true progress is made in terms of workplace wellness.
These companies also understand that wellness is an ongoing effort.
Says Hunnicutt, "We encourage award winning organizations
to view this award not as the end, but as the beginning of truly
effective wellness programming. "Because of their efforts,
they now have valuable strategies in place that will guide them
toward even greater successes in the future."
