Assistant Director, Well-Being & Fitness
Ohio University Campus Recreation is seeking a strong and confident leader with experience working in a fast-paced, team orientated environment that thrives on new challenges. This position will empower the successful candidate to deliver dynamic, progressive, and engaging programs and services aimed to advance the well-being of the Ohio University campus community and its surrounding populations.
This position will assist the department in fulfilling its mission: to provide a fully integrated recreation experience that elevates the transformative impact of Ohio University while providing quality, inclusive recreation experiences designed to positively impact the intellectual and personal development of OHIO students and the vitality of the OHIO community.
The Assistant Director provides leadership, strategic planning, administration and day-to-day decision making to deliver a quality experience and ensure the safe and inclusive operation of a comprehensive collegiate well-being and fitness program within the Department of Campus Recreation. Primary areas of responsibility include developing strategies, assessment, and resources for integrating well-being into all aspects of the Department’s operations, programs and services. Additional responsibilities include the supervision of Well-Being and Fitness outreach services and events, Group Fitness and Personal Training programs, fitness-related facility space and equipment within the Ping Recreation Center. This position will cultivate strategic partnerships with Division, campus, and community constituents to support and advance the department’s mission to enhance student well-being. Personnel responsibilities include direct supervision of Well-Being and Fitness Staff; approximately 50-student employees including Graduate Assistants, Group Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, Ping Fitness Facility Assistants, and Well-Being and Fitness Specialists. In addition, the Assistant Director will work closely with all Department staff and campus partners to create opportunities and communicate feedback to deliver a quality end-user experience with Ohio University.
Program Development & Implementation: 1. Design, develop, and implement comprehensive collegiate well-being and fitness programs. 2. Establish, develop, and implement policies, procedures, practices and outcomes for well-being and fitness related program operations and services including outreach and events, Group Fitness, Personal Training, partnerships and collaboration. 3. Supervise fitness facility space/operations, policies and procedures, and staff within the Ping Recreation Center; assist with the management of facility fitness equipment. 4. Plan, direct, and integrate well-being assessment strategies to evaluate program and department efforts to achieve a consistent, holistic approach supporting Division Well-Being initiative. 5. Coordinate program scheduling, registration, and communication with program patrons, and appropriate administrative staff and constituents. 6. Compile and analyze statistical data on learning outcomes, program evaluation, usage, and satisfaction in support of efforts to create a culture in which data and information are both valued and utilized for reporting and decision-making.

Resource Management & Stewardship: 1. Responsibly manages University resources including but not limited to finances, people, and equipment/inventory and facility space. 2. Continuously evaluates operational efficiency, maximizes the impact of available resources, and seeks opportunities to enhance and ensure the financial strength of Campus Recreation. 3. Ensures that budgets are in compliance within University and Department guidelines, policy and procedures. 4. Consistently monitors all revenue and expense budgets pertaining to area and assists in budget planning relating to well-being and fitness programming. 5. Coordinates the use of facilities with administrative staff to ensure proper and safe management and maintenance of all program facility space.
Risk Management & Safety: 1. Develops and executes a comprehensive risk management plan for all areas of oversight. 2. Assures that all areas of oversight comply with state laws and University policy and procedures. 3. Anticipates and identifies issues and areas of improvement, and produces viable and logical solutions. 4. Maintains current knowledge of all areas of responsibility regarding risk management and safety.
Department & Student Affairs: 1. Actively contribute as a staff member of the Department and Division that uphold the framework of equity and social justice. 2. Provide leadership, promote collaboration, and facilitate effective communication across the Department, Division, and University/campus community. 3. Maintain current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose and affairs to be prepared to respond to appropriate issues. 4. Actively participate in professional development opportunities when available and maintain current knowledge of emerging trends, best practices and related issues regarding all relevant areas of responsibility. 5. Performs other duties as assigned.
