Health & Fitness Specialist (Nebraska)
ROLE OF POSITION
To provide professional staffing and daily management of a worksite fitness center in downtown Omaha. To create a supportive environment, promote and administer healthy lifestyle programs, and to reach established membership sales and program engagement goals. To assist in the delivery of wellness services to other clients as requested.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide professional staffing of the Fitness Center at various times during its hours of operation.
- Create a positive, supportive and healthy fitness environment for fitness center members.
- Administer proper screening and clearance for all new employee members.
- Recruit new members and retain members on an ongoing basis.
- Conduct fitness equipment orientations, administer fitness assessments, and develop exercise prescriptions.
- Provide marketing and advertising for the Fitness center and associated programs.
- Keep accurate records including the tracking of utilization of the Fitness center and other programs.
- Compose and distribute a periodic newsletter for Fitness center members.
- Teach group fitness classes at Fitness Center.
- Provide members with information regarding safe nutrition, fitness, and weight management guidelines.
- Provide a minimum of three (3) incentive challenges for members per year
- Provide semi-annual demonstrations or special events for members.
- Prepare reports for Fitness center and other programs.
- Provide on-going communication and guidance in order to ensure the Fitness center and other services are a valued and utilized benefit for all building tenants.
- Provide routine maintenance of fitness equipment and coordinate maintenance contracts.
- Utilize existing membership software facility management including billing and reporting.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Competencies/Expectations
- Administer additional fee-for-service fitness/wellness programs services to building tenants, regardless of membership to the fitness center.
- Conduct one-on-one and/or small group personal training sessions.
- Teach group fitness classes at other locations.
- Assist in the delivery of fitness/wellness programs for other Healthbreak clients.
- Conduct oneself and all programs according to the best practice standards outlined in the health and fitness industry.
- Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge of fitness and wellness programs and strategies, including legal and compliance issues.
- Contribute to the development of long term plans and strategies.
- Be an engaged Healthbreak team member and participate on other projects and activities.
- Contribute to hiring massage therapists, group fitness class instructors and/or equipment selection needs of facility.
- Manage and adhere to assigned budgets.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with Healthbreak personnel, as well as internal and external contacts
Supervisory Duties/Responsibility
No direct employee supervision, oversight of contracted group fitness instructors, equipment maintenance contracts and other vendor contracts as required.
Travel Expectation
No travel expected outside of Omaha/Lincoln metro areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or related health field.
- Solid knowledge of exercise physiology, fitness testing, exercise prescription, and nutrition.
- One to two years of experience working in a worksite or commercial fitness center and promoting memberships and other services. Personal training experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively lead the instruction of group fitness classes.
- Strong skills in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other fitness center management software.
- ACSM Certified (CPT, HFS) or similar certification preferred.
- Current CPR/AED & First Aid certification.
- Professional image and a personal role model for fitness and health promotion.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate or influence others.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently to carry out work and assigned tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to quiet.
- The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear; frequently required to stand; pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying, bending/squatting is part of the daily job.
- Moderate physical activity required to effectively lead group classes and demonstrate equipment that includes frequent lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
