Onsite Health Promotion Specialist

We are currently seeking a Full Time On-Site Health Promotion Specialist to work in the Toms River, NJ area.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Health Promotion Specialist will be responsible for the delivery and promotion of community-based fitness and wellness events and classes as part of a national initiative focused on the health and wellness of individuals over 65. The Health Specialist will manage all events including program implementation, content presentation and supervision of presenters and instructors as needed. The Health Promotion Specialist will teach programs and classes depending on scope of expertise.
Events and classes will be provided in a variety of venues and modalities. The Health Promotion Specialist will have a high profile and is the “face” of the wellness program for his or her area. The Health Promotion Specialist will foster integration on a digital platform and refer participants to coaching opportunities and other modalities available to them as part of this program. Ultimately the Health Promotion Specialist is responsible for all aspects for the successful delivery of the wellness events and fitness classes at venues.
This is a full-time, thirty-two hours per week position. Events and classes are primarily in the Toms River area, with limited travel to the Princeton area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with and under the direction of the Regional Director to provide wellness events and teach comprehensive wellness and fitness classes to AARP MedSup individuals ages 65 and over. These events and classes will focus on a variety of areas, such as heart disease prevention, diabetes management, physical activity, balance, nutrition, and brain health to increase the overall health and wellbeing of participating individuals.
- Work closely with the Regional Director, Content Specialist and other members of the team to develop program content, monthly calendar of events and communication avenues. Is responsible for identifying appropriate venues at which to hold events.
- Under the director of the Regional Director, act as the local liaison with all local resources and partners, and identify new partners as appropriate.
- Ensure the appropriate, accurate and timely execution of tasks related to events and programs to budget and timelines through the use of business plans, event calendars, an on-line registration system and other appropriate avenues. These activities include but not limited to monthly event registration, venue relations, venue and competitive analyses, ordering supplies, reporting attendance and engagement metrics, and making timely notification of potential issues to the Regional Director.
- Under the direction of the Regional Director, supervise Optum/Plus One instructors who may provide services for the program.
- Effectively and appropriately engage culturally diverse communities.
- Maintain records and documentation as required for program compliance and coordination.
- Work effectively and efficiently from a home office as part of a national virtual team while providing excellent service and programming to multi-site populations.
- Is able to travel to all venues where the events are held.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor’s degree in health and wellness promotion, exercise science, nutrition or a related field is required; Master’s degree in one of these fields is strongly preferred
- Current nationally recognized group fitness or personal training certification or willing to obtain one within one month of hire
- Minimum of three years of work experience, in health promotion, health management, fitness center management or a related field
- Thorough understanding and proven experience in health management: prevention, screening, behavior modification, and disease management modalities
- Experience, training and/or interest in working with individuals over 65
- Proven competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web-based systems
