Research Program Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Research Program Coordinator will coordinate research projects for Dr. Earlise Ward’s research team at the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. The Ward Wellness Collaborative conducts community engaged research focused on African American adults’ mental health and culturally competent mental health services. The Research Program Coordinator will work directly with study team members, collaborators, stakeholders and research participants to ensure that all study objectives are met. This position requires excellent administrative, organizational, written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as independence in planning, organizing and implementation.

Responsibilities:

Plans and coordinates the administrative, operational, outreach and promotional activities related to research studies that may be collaborative and independent. Serves as a subject matter expert.

  • 20% Coordinates the daily activities and contracts related to one or more research program(s)
  • 10% Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
  • 20% Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims
  • 10% Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
  • 10% Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
  • 10% Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program
  • 10% Interacts with study participants, conducts data collection and monitors participants throughout study
  • 10% Serves as a key resource for IRB (Institution Review Board) communications (including, but not limited to, applications, changes, continuing reviews, adverse event reporting)

Qualifications:

Required:
– Experience coordinating complex research projects. Preference will be given to research experience within public/community health and/or mental health
– Experience collaborating with study team members, collaborators, community stakeholders and research participants
– Ability to work independently and take initiative on tasks and/or projects
– Ability to consistently maintain a high level of attention to detail and demonstrate organizational skills
– Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
– Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

Preferred:
– Knowledge of REDCap database or other research databases, and data quality management
– Knowledge of UW regulations and procedures, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
– Knowledge of research confidentiality and privacy issues

License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License – Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
Travel is required. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver’s license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is a large, tier-one clinical department in the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). UW DFMCH has 171 faculty, 261 adjunct faculty, and 110 staff located throughout the state. Combined with its associated UW Health clinic operation, the department boasts over 750 total employees transforming health care in Wisconsin. Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at January 1, 2020 ($35,568 annually), he/she will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly, and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
