Wellness Advocate/Health Coach
The Virginia Private Colleges Benefits Consortium (The Consortium) is currently seeking two part-time onsite health coaches to support the healthier lifestyles of our college faculty and staff. Each position provides a flexible schedule of approximately 15 hours per month.
Location 1: Danville, VA
Location 2: Buena Vista, VA
The Consortium offers a voluntary wellness program promoting “Living Healthy.” Its goal is to empower all benefit-eligible employees and medical-enrolled spouses with education in support of protecting their most precious personal asset, their physical, emotional and mental health.
Our Wellness Advocates play an important role in helping to foster a culture of health at each of our campuses. Coaches will deliver prevention/lifestyle intervention services focusing on nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, weight management and reduction of risk for chronic disease using behavior modification and coaching techniques.
The Wellness Advocate/Health Coach will:
- Coach individuals in person and telephonically.
- Work with participants to set health and wellness goals through individual and some group related activities.
- Coordinate, support, and provide referrals for wellness programs in areas such as nutrition, stress management, weight management, and exercise.
- Demonstrate an ability to deliver effective health coaching in a manner that promotes behavior change.
- Appropriately adapt coaching and education methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific needs of each client served.
- Keep accurate records.
- Demonstrate strong customer service behaviors and standards by treating all clients with courtesy, dignity, respect, and professionalism.
In addition to health coaching responsibilities, the Wellness Advocate will also:
- Work directly with the Human Resources Director and/or Benefits Specialist, as appropriate, to plan, develop, coordinate and facilitate wellness initiatives and activities
- Work with the campus’ Wellness Committee
- Interacts as appropriate with individual campus departments to build a culture of health, and address specific health risk exposures and interest areas;
- Develops campus specific wellness-promotion campaign materials;
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in health education, health promotion, nutrition, exercise physiology or closely related field
- Minimum two years of experience required in direct education and/or coaching with individuals for disease prevention, health promotion and behavior change.
- Biometric Screening experience strongly preferred
- Experience in PC-based word processing and database documentation (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook)
- Must demonstrate insight into human behavior and have the ability to communicate and interact with individuals at varying levels of skill and education
- Must stay current on health promotion, disease prevention, and community development trends for proper service delivery
- Upbeat and compassionate personality willing to teach, learn and be open to new and innovative ways of delivering prevention lifestyle intervention services
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development
