Director of Global Health and Wellness

St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust and zeal, we educate students to be, do and stand for good in the world. We enroll 1,500 students from more than 60 communities. 

The Director of Global Health and Wellness at St. John’s Prep is one of four directors of the Center for Mission and Research, which includes a Director of Environmental Sustainability, Director of Innovation and Design, and Director of Justice and Peace. In honor of the missionary spirit of the Xaverian Brothers and their response to the call of Catholic social teaching internationally, the Director of Global Health and Wellness aims to raise awareness and promote inquiry that contributes to valuing the life and dignity of each human person throughout the world.

The Director of Global Health and Wellness is a permanent ten-month position coinciding with the academic school year (mid-August to mid-June). Work outside of this period will be stipended. Reporting to the Principal/Associate Head of School, the Director of Global Health and Wellness will:

  • Teach the Advanced Research Capstone year-long course along with the other center directors. Responsibilities include developing and implementing capstone curriculum, and mentoring students throughout the process of developing topics, conducting research, and presenting completed projects.
  • Facilitate the SJP Global Education program with the other center directors. Beginning in 2020, rising juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to spend two weeks during the summer investigating the thematic areas of the centers through a study abroad experience. Responsibilities include identifying and developing partnerships at similar mission driven schools and institutions around the world, co-creating curricula, facilitating travel logistics, and traveling with students.
  • Collaborate on the Brother Sullivan, C.F.X. Lecture Series with the aim to bring innovators and leaders to St. John’s to explore how an ethics-based education can shape decision-making in the real world.
  • Work with faculty and staff to integrate themes of global health and wellness into the curricula across grades 6 through 12 through professional development opportunities, connecting resources, guest speakers, etc.
  • Explore strategic partnerships with centers for global health and wellness at institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations and health care organizations/industry.
  • Connect alumni and other members of the larger community with the academic life of St. John’s as visiting experts, speakers and/or mentors.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Clear understanding of St. John’s mission and the role it will play in the Center’s programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate with other professionals to positively impact student learning.
  • Creative and innovative vision for authentic learning experiences and student engagement. International experience and student travel experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and engage students on the components and goal-oriented process of deep inquiry, research, PBL, or capstone projects (combination of many) that result in real world opportunities to explore Global Health & Wellness. Experience supporting undergraduate or high school research preferred.
  • Proven ability to build external partnerships.
  • Keen organizational, leadership and administrative skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Master’s or doctorate degree in a field related to the focus of the center. Masters of Public Health preferred.
  • Facility and high comfort level with digital learning tools, database programs, Microsoft Office and others.
