The health educator will assist in the administration of the Hokie Wellness program, with a specific focus on mental/emotional, physical, and financial well-being, and purpose. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based, data-informed employee wellness programs for Virginia Tech employees. Reporting to the Wellness Manager of Hokie Wellness, the health educator will oversee student interns and program assistants, assist with day-to-day operations of department, perform needs assessments and gather and analyze the results of such assessments. This individual will stay current with wellness trends and public health research, and will utilize best practices in program design, delivery and evaluation. The health educator will develop, plan, execute, and evaluate well-being, health education and promotion, and prevention programming for Virginia Tech employees. In addition, they will employ a variety of methods to reach diverse audiences, including, but not limited to, one-to-one brief interactions, group workshops, campus outreach, and social platforms. The health educator will regularly collaborate with Hokie Wellness Champions, other campus departments, and within the local community to coordinate programs and services for all Virginia Tech employees. In addition, the health educator will serve on committees and working groups as needed. The health educator will join a talented team of Hokie Wellness professionals who are leading student and employee well-being at Virginia Tech. The health educator must cultivate strong relationship amongst team members, employees, and the greater campus community.

Required Qualifications

The selected individual must be an educator committed to employee success, inclusion, and well-being. A Master’s Degree or a bachelor’s degree with professional work experience equivalent to an advanced degree in Public Health (MPH), health education, health policy, social work or another relevant field is required. The health educator should have significant experience in planning, developing, and presenting customized programs; developing, assessing, and modifying programs and/or presentation materials; and demonstrated acquisition and application of knowledge of current and developing issues/trends in specified areas of well-being. This individual must have experience in facilitating and teaching classes and/or workshops as well as presenting to a variety of audiences.

This individual will be committed to inclusivity, collaboration, and service and will display a high level of flexibility, organizational skills, teamwork, and innovative thinking. Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and take initiative in a dynamic, fast paced environment. Ability to work collaboratively with a team of colleagues and serve as a representative of Hokie Wellness.

Preferred Qualifications

CHES certification; partnerships with the Virginia Tech community and understanding of resources available on and off campus.
