The Power of Believing You Are Good Enough

BY: Maggie Gough

The whole world is run by people who simply believe they are good enough to do the work.

This is the singular thought that smacked me in the face one day driving into work. I’ll wait a moment while you do the litmus test.

It turns out the people in leadership are there either due to privilege, perseverance, or a combination of both.
Think of all the leaders you know. Were they born with a unique mindset that you don’t have? Is there a test that sorts out who has this magical mindset and who doesn’t? Nope. It turns out the people in leadership are there either due to privilege, perseverance, or a combination of both.

So here is the thing that we at WELCOA need you to know:
  1. We need you to believe you are good enough to do the work. You’ve been doing the work.
  2. We need more people to raise their hands and say, “This wellness work is for me. I have invested a decade or more in this and I am prepared to take on the challenge.”
  3. We need you to get to work. If your employer tells you that they don’t need you, go somewhere where you are valued.
  4. We need YOU.
We need you to believe you are good enough to do the work.
We started the year by explaining that wellness got a glow up. Everyone from the U.S. Surgeon General to the HR generalist to the CEO is talking about employee well-being. For that reason, it’s time for you to step into the center of those conversations and assert what you know and have been working on for years. Maybe your leaders didn’t listen before, but the need has changed.

Here is the reality, if it’s not you, it will be someone else who simply believes they are good enough to do the work.
Here is the reality, if it’s not you, it will be someone else who simply believes they are good enough to do the work. That person may not have the hard-won wisdom you have. They may not have the relationships with the employees you have built. They may not know the pitfalls you have watched your company learn from.

We need you. The employees need you. It’s time to believe you are good enough to do the work.
