Welcome To 2023: A Revolutionary Year For The Way We Work

BY: Maggie Gough • COO | WELCOA

Welcome to 2023. This is the year historians will mark as the starting point of a movement that changed work for the next 50 years. Welcome to the movement.

Transforming Our Vision

In 2023 we will not make the case for treating all people with dignity and respect. We will get to work creating systems that treat all people with dignity and respect. We will not prove the ROI of creating an organization where people’s well-being is a necessity. We will get to work designing work for well-being.

If your leadership team asks you to cite the evidence that well-being is integral to business success, simply reply, “Since when was a human being’s well-being something that required a business case? I can either spend my time showing you why this matters, or I can show you how we can begin designing work for well-being so we can become an employer of choice. How would you like me to spend my time?”
“Wellness and HR professionals held steady ground to support a better way forward.”

Transforming the Way We Work

In 50 years, historians will cite 2023 as the beginning of a movement brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will know that this was work we were doing long before that and that the pandemic was a catalyst in its disruption of the status quo. As work as we knew it fell apart around us, we rooted deeply into the work we had been doing in the five years prior. Wellness and HR professionals held steady ground to support a better way forward.

Transforming the Future of Work

As we have made our way through the chaos of those years, we now find ourselves with a new opportunity to cement this progress to serve others for decades to come. In 2022, the Surgeon General made this work a top priority of his office. His statements were bold and clear. This work matters to our endurance as a society, the time to do it is now, and workplaces need to own their responsibility to people’s well-being.
“…workplaces need to own their responsibility to people’s well-being.”
This work is big enough that it’s going to take some intentionality from everyone. If you’re reading this, then you’re in. If there are those who are tuning into this work for the first time, welcome. We need you. If you’re like us and have been in the trenches for years; it’s time to step into your leadership.

Our work just got a glow up. Now it’s time to get to work. We have massive strides to create real change. It’s going to take all of us.
