WELCOA sat down to interview Dr. Steve Aldana, a self-proclaimed “recovering academic.” Dr. Aldana has spent more than 20 years in academia doing health and wellness research, writing books, and publishing numerous research-based articles. In 2007, he resigned his position as a tenured professor at Brigham Young University because he felt that his ability to help Americans change behaviors would be limited if he stayed behind the walls of academia. He has since co-founded WellSteps, an organization dedicated to helping Americans improve their health through simple, easy steps. In this interview, Dr. Aldana offers his expertise on the many misconceptions of physical activity, shares his thoughts on exercise formulas and prescriptions, and provides clarity as to what it will really take to get Americans physically active for good.
